Where to start?

Post by Paul B » Sun Sep 23, 2007 1:17 pm

I don't know which exercises to begin with. I have the two books about rebuilding the back, and rebuilding the neck. At present I am suffering from a problem with my neck, if I turn my head to the left I get pain when I return it to center I also feel a click, this is a problem I have had for about a year. In the past I have had lower back problems from time to time the last episode being about 2½ years ago lasting for 1 year. My lower back is sore and I know it's not how it should be. Can anyone tell me where to start, with the neck or the back exercises? Any advice would be appreciated. P

If I was in your shoes, Paul, I'd visit my GP first and find out if there are any contra-indications to doing the PT recommended in Dean's books. There are some physical dysfunctions, that a competent general practitioner can recognize, that can cause your symptoms that need more than physical therapy to be healed.

But if you've gotten the all-clear from your GP, I'd do the basic exercises that Dean recommends for the next 2 months, then add the advanced exercises as your strength and flexibility increase, and your pain decreases.

Thanks Randolph!
I have seen my GP and she was very enthusiastic about me helping myself with Dean's exersises. The thing is should I start with the neck book or the back book? Thanks Paul

Hi Paul,

It probably won't matter which one you start with. It sounds like your neck is bothering you more, so I'd start there.

It's possible to do both, unless doing the back exercises bothers your neck.
