Bulging disc or what!

Postby merrygoround » Wed Mar 25, 2009 3:33 pm

Approx 12 mths ago I became aware of pain when sitting - particularlly on a hard surface, on the left side of my coxis and into the left buttock. Not apparently due to any particular trauma. This has increased and decreased in intensity during this time. I have had extensive investigations inc MCI CT + SIG not showing anything of any significance. A back surgeon informed me that he felt surgery would not help and to get a tens machine! I have tried Osteopath, some acurpunture + am cuurently seeing a phiso had course antiflamitory injections, ultra sound. The pain is particully bad at night - starting with someone pushing a screw driver through the base of my spine then setting it alight! Some days or times of day are better thn others = I just seem to be spending a fortune with no signif answers + wonderd if anyone had experienced anything simular - is this purly siatica or a buging disc or what?

A bulging disc would have shown up on your scans and the surgeon should have been able to tell you if you had sciatica or not. It's a basic part of the physical exam they normally do before ordering the scans.

If they didn't mention these things, then it's something else.

If all the physical therapies you've tried haven't made a difference, and you seem to have run the gamut, then you might want to consider broadening your research to include one other possibility...

In the Sciatica forum I've "stickied" a post on something called "TMS" which is short for what Dr. John Sarno has labeled Tension Myositis Syndrome. I'm not saying that's what you're dealing with, but it's worth looking into.

Dr. Sarno has written a book called, "Healing Back Pain" and a newer version called "The Divided Mind" either of which you might want to pick up. If your local library doesn't have them, Amazon will.
