Yes, Wess, one of the dysfunctions that can accompany other sciatica symptoms is loss of normal uninary and bowel control. In my case, I had great difficulty initiating urine flow and bowel evacuation for several weeks; bowel dysfunction improved greatly within a month, but regaining normal control of initiating urine flow control took almost a year. This dysfunction can also cause incontinence problems in some folks with sciatica (though not in me).

However, problems with the urinary and bowel systems can be caused by a whole lot of other dysfunctions, not related to sciatica. So it would probably be wise to have a GP or urologist look at you to make sure your plumbing problems don't have non-sciatica related causes. Most likely, your plumbing problems are sciatica related (the nerves that control urinary and bowel function are part of the bundle of nerves frequently damaged with sciatica)... but you want to make sure that you aren't presenting with a spinal cord disorder, or prostatitis, or rarer complications like an internal abdominal herniation (that happened to Alan recently, and needed surgery to repair).

Also, the pain in the testes is (among other things) a symptom for some STDs (trichomonas, e.g.). So if you've been exposed to the risk of acquiring a STD (even years ago), this would also be something to check out, too.

Glad to read, Wess, that you got the competent input from your doctor. What med is giving you the side-effect of constipation?

Yes, you've got it right ... pain is your stop sign - if it hurts to do a stretch or exercise, back off. Otherwise ... go for it.

Dean recommends doing the basic RYB exercises for two months before adding the advanced ones; that worked for me.
