Great Book....

Postby krd » Mon Aug 21, 2006 9:01 am

Hey fellow back pain/sciatica suffers:

Here is a great book to buy. It is called "Back RX" and it is written by Vijay Vad, M.D. This guy is a sports medicine specialist at the hospital for spinal surgery and a professor at Cornell University Medical Center in N.Y. He is also the back care advisor on the PGA tour and the men's tennis tour.

This guy believes that exercise and stretching is the best medicine for healing backs and low back pain. I ordered a used one from Amazon for $5.00. In the mean time I got it our of our local library and I am reading it. He combines simple yoga and pilates with controlled breathing. Dean I always knew that you were on the right track. His program is a 15 minute a day, 8 week workout. He increases the intensity for those that want to continue pass this initial phase also.

I have not started the exercises as of yet since I just started reading it. However, this guy and his wife suffered from low back pain and this motivated him to write this book. Check it out and let me know what you think. I am already excited in that a friend of mine has sciatica and has been doing this program for about 3 weeks and is noticing significant improvement. I know that we are all different, but I am willing to try anything at this point. I will keep you all posted on my progress. Be posting.

Hi Ken

I found Dr. Vad's "Arthritis RX", which contains his exercise program.

His endorsements of chiropractic and acupuncture (with only minor caveats), and "sort-of" endorsements of certain useless food supplements (like MSM and chondroitin) are a bit unsettling, but it was encouraging to see the RYB exercises promoted, even if by different names.

What are you finding of value in Dr. Vad's book, specifically?
