Non Surgical Spinal Decompression
Non Surgical Spinal Decompression
Been searching the web looking for sites like this to help with my lower back problems. In my journey I have also found many links to this new procedure (also being advertised via normal channels now as well) and was unable to find any mention of this procedure in the forum. Is this just another hoax? Just a way to separate a desperate fool and his money?
I am no doctor or medical professional, but the procedure appears to have merits. However, if this procedure purports to relieve compressed disks (herniated, bulging or degenerative) and I have seen several links that say that this condition is not the cause of my sciatica and lower back pain, then why pay for this procedure?
Can anyone offer any insight. Clear away the chaff so to speak?
Thanks all,
Greg

Hi Greg ,
Welcome to our friendly group
Spinal Decompression , now that is not exactly something I know ANYTHING about ( Hey I'm from Australia , We have only just recently got access to power , gas and telephones
)
Just kidding
, I'm guessing ( Yes really guessing ! ) you are referring to Spinal Traction or similar ???
Please give us a little bit more information !
There are a few people within the forum who have been thru the mill ( So to speak ) who would probably have some very good and HONEST feedback for your question with +ve and or -ve results there .
Also lets not forget Dean who not only Talks the Walk but also Walks the Walk with all his info from past experience & also with his support within this site !

Hi thanks for the welcome...
Yes I guess I am talking about traction. Seems the Chiropractic community have a machine called the DRX 9000 that they use to put you in traction for several 30 min sessions over a period of time. Presumably, the traction allows the bulging disk to return to its normal form in time.
I was wondering if anyone here has had this treatment? Is it just another ripoff?

Greg ,
The DRX 900 was mentioned in another thread in this forum , 1 person had found it useful - See this thread :- http://www.rebuildyourback.com/forum/vi ... .php?t=310
In another thread recently Tomcat mentioned he didn't have great success with Decompression - See this thread :- http://www.rebuildyourback.com/forum/vi ... ight=#1531
Traction does seem to have some medical based uses as my Physiotherapist used Traction on me 2 or 3 times .
The traction machine I used was just some very old machine that had a metal cord that was attached to a brace type thing placed around my stomach and then the machine pulled the cord up to whatever tension setting the machine was set to ( I'm sure there is some proper name for machine , I just referred to it as " The Tow Rope" ! )
I didn't "seem" to get any benefit out of it and my PT asked if I could feel anything in my back from it ( which I could not ) even after winding the machine up to the maximum setting I couldn't feel anything .
But I'm sure in some cases it does have an effect , since Physiotherapists are medically trained I tend to feel they wouldn't be using anything that is a "Smoke and Mirrors" trick .
As you probably know there is not a "One size fits all " cure for back pain as we all seem to respond differently to treatments .
The only common thing that seems to help everyone is Excercise
Also a herniated or bulging Disc will certainly cause Sciatic pain if it is pressing or irritating the Sciatic nerve

Re: Non Surgical Spinal Decompression
Greg,
I've just signed on to this website, and am not sure if I've mastered all the particulars so I hope you receive this. Also, this might be old news by now. Anyway, I'm currently undergoing VaxD decompression treatments. I just had 3 treatments and then had to stop due to a previously planned vacation so I don't have any real input as yet. Oh, one thing which was a little disconcerting- when I got up off the table I could hardly stand, even though I was fine before the treatment. After some electronic massaging I seem to recover. They suggest it's normal, but it's exactly the feeling I get when my muscles first spasm in an attack. I resume treatments tomorrow which will last for several weeks on a daily bases. My understanding is this process creates a negative force which supposedly draws fluids or bulging discs back into place. I've had several episodes over the last 20 years where my back suddenly went into a spasm-quite debilitating-which lasted for about a week. 2-3 weeks later everything was back to normal. The last time this happened I decided to find out what was actually happening with my back. An MRI showed a bulge or herniation between my 4th & 5th lumbar discs. I am pain free now, but decided to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them, as Shakespeare suggested was one of our options. If you'd like I can keep you posted.
Did you ever arrive at any conclusions concerning these treatments?

Chloe, how did the rest of your treatment go? Please share your experience with DRX 9000. I'm considering starting DRX 9000 treatment for herniated L5/S1. Thanks a lot.
