Surgery inevitable this time

Post by uechiman » Thu Mar 10, 2011 1:25 pm

Well, after successfully rehabilitating a herniated L5-S1 disc two summers ago using Dean's exercises, it looks like I'm going under the knife for a neck injury. I have a severely herniated disc C6-C7 that's pressing into my spinal cord and compressing it so badly it looked like a sausage link. The symptoms are tingling in my right hand that sometimes feels like I'm being electrocuted. The docs say I'm lucky I'm not paralyzed from the neck down. They also say I show remarkably few symptoms for such a severe cord compression.

I asked about doing neck exercises and they advised to avoid ALL such movements. They did say that some decompression might help alleviate the tingling, but it will return as soon as I stop.

I have roughly 6 weeks for a miracle to happen. My original prognosis for my lower back was surgery, but I avoided that by diligently working with the program. I think I'm out of luck this time.

Well, I'm down to two weeks before my surgery. I go in on April 26. The miracle hasn't happened and the tingling in my hand has actually gotten a bit worse as of late.

If it's not too much to ask, say a little prayer for me  I don't want to go under the knife, but I have to do something as living with the constant fear of paralysis is not really living at all.
