Sacroiliac joint dysfunction

:( Hi everybody. I am Antonica Daniela from Brisbane Australia (prefer Daniela). I had my 3rd baby 6 mths ago and for the last 4 mths I am prograssively gting worse with my pelvis. i've tried everything from chiro to physio, muskuloscheletal docs, surgeons, yoga and only yoga helps for very short time (24-48hours). Aparently the sacroiliac joints are rebeling but it is so bad that I'm desperate to find help. I cannot walk, sleep, look aftermy baby and my condition affects my whole family (and my new baby is to my new husband under a year marriage).

PLEASE ANYBODY OUT THERE HELP! Does anybody knows somebody around Brisbane Australia that has experience with SI joints dysfunction after pregnancy. PLEASE HELP IF YOU DO AND DROP ME A MESSAGE.

I totally feel your pain.
I was there.
I'm sorry, I didnt find any relief.
My pain went away after my baby was born, but then came back with avengence when she was almost 2.

Everytime I lift her, I still feel it.

I did find relief sleeping with one of the large squshy pillows between my legs. stretching and swimming made me feel better during my pregnancy.
I'm sorry I can't help.
Maybe a massage therapist ?

I am 36 yrs old. I used to be very active person. I've had 2 knee surgeries and one ankel with torn ligaments that resulted in one flat foot.
I broke my tailbone when I was 25, I got a few steroid injections and it was healed and never had problems with it again. I have 2 kids, one 10 and one 2. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child my "tailbone area" started hurting very badly. As a result, I gaine about 35 lbs due to my sudden inactivity. After baby was born, pain went away. I lost almost all my weight exercising again. 6 mos ago my hip,low back tailbone pain came back, this time with avengence. I went to the dr, she made a coment about getting to a certain age and lifting toddlers in and out of car seats etc. I was very offended by that coment. I am not old, and I considerd myself in good shape. I was also a Elem. PE teacher at the time. Anyways, I went back 2weeks later, and the muscle relaxers had decreased the intensity of the flareup ( other areas of my back were starting to hurt for me compensating for the pain in my low back) but the burning pain was still deep in my hip and always there.

Anyways, I've since been to a chiropractor that measured my legs. My leg length discrepency is almost 1/2 inch. She gave me an insert to put in my shoe, at first I thought it was helping, but now everything is back to where I started.

My questions are:
what is the exercise book everyone is talking about ?
has anyone been "healed" from their SIJ "dysfunction"
Because I tell you, this pain has sucked the life out of me.
I am not doing the things I used to do. My pain is always there.

I feel like a link in my core is weakened. strength and stability are diminished.

I will try anything to make this go away

I am going through an SI-related problem now as well. It took a year to diagnose properly, and I cannot even count the number of doctors and imaging tests I went through with no diagnosis. I had burning pain in my right hip, groin, outer thigh and lower back. Turns out there are a lot of things going on. My right SI joint is "locked" (doesn't move, while left one does). My Psoas muscle (very large muscled that runs along the vertebrae), as well as another muscle in that area (starts with an "i") are both contracted and in a constant spasming state. The person who diagnosed me was a physical therapist with ostepathic training. He simply pressed down on that psoas muscle, and all the pain was recreated. I have read that others have the opposite problem: that the SI joints become too mobile, in particular after having children. Before you can find treatment, you have to find a proper diagnosis. I would recommend finding or asking around for a highly qualified physical therapist, and ask him/her specifically to examine these muscles and joints. They should be able to tell you if you are hypermobile or immobile in that joint, and whether the muscles around it are contributing to the pain. Also look into osteopaths, who manipulate without necessarily doing the back cracking a chiropractor does. By the way, I saw a chiropractor who immediately recommended shoe inserts as the solution to my problem too. Must be standard operating procedure. I have read that almost everyone has a discrepancy in how their legs reach the ground. The body and its muscles adjust to it, so by wearing heel lifts, it sometimes makes it worse. You need to get another "professional" opinion on this. I'm not sure who to believe. You could also look into "prolotherapy", which is a technique (generally not covered by insurance), which uses injections to cause strengthening of cartilage and ligaments around loose or injured joints. I would definitely figure out what your problem is first though. Prolotherapy isn't a diagnosis, but rather a course of treatment.

I saw countless back and hip "specialists" who couldn't diagnose me because all they did was look at the MRI and CT scans, and never laid a hand on me to examine me. It really takes a physical therapist or ostepath to find and treat some of these problems. They are very hands on and really understand mechanical problems. Good luck to you. I also found that this forum is terrific and I have also had good luck talking to as many people as possible. I actually found, quite accidentally, a woman at work who had the same condition as I have. You never know who will have good information or a recommendation for a good PT or doctor. The book you are reading about is all about strengthening your back. I think it's a great idea, but you really should try to get a proper diagnosis of what your specific issue is, and then you can target how it will be treated.

Hi Keli,

I found a couple specialised PTs that are dealing with these problems. Google synergy physio for one.

Another, who I saw twice so far, and after first sesion I was pain free for a week but have to ware a SIJ belt when in bearing weight position, which is all the time but laying down. He seems very positive and so do I. Next visit I'll ask him about personal standards of cured clients.

I also have a Left SIJ blocked where the pain plays up. So GUEJ how is your treatment coming along?

Does anyone know about SIJ dysfunction clients healed? i heard that is a good success rate if you are in good hands.

Si and Groin pain?

Hi All!
I'm just so glad to hear that I'm not the only one with a back/hip problem that isn't simply defined or diagnosed! I'm happy to hear any comments/advise from anyone!
I had meniscus surgery in Sept. and the idiot Dr. didn't believe in PT so I hobbled and limped and was totally misaligned when by Christmas my lower back and buttocks started to kick in with low, dull pain on top of the groin pain (in the right crease of the surgeried leg).
My husband's orthopedic surgeon didn't see anything on an x-ray andsaid my knee was mechanically fine but gave me a script for PT.
Along with rehabbing the knee after the fact, I was diagnosed with a strained rectus femorus muscle which they the PT people taught me how to gently stretch out. While this was going on, I was experiencing the lower back pain. I can bend, twist etc. but if I stand or walk for more than 20 minutes I hurt across the middle of the buttocks and it radiates to my groin (top of thigh part) The x-ray shows my discs as OK but I had an MRI on Monday and Ill see what that has to say next week. I'm healthy otherwise so I'm not worried about anything "un-orthopedic"
Will an SI problem show up on an MRI? Oh PS...I bought a little thing called (don't laugh) a looks like a small (5") bike seat on a hard foam pad. It fits in your back area from the tail bone up about 5 ".
I lay on it correctly situated, on the floor and relax. I feel my sacrum raised and my hips fall with gravity down even with or behind the sacrum and it feels GREAT! Anyway...this whole back thing seemed to come on after a particlarly hard work out on an eliptical where I cranked the incline up. Until then it was just the knee and top of thigh muscle that hurt but now I have a constellation of stuff and I really think that this SI joint you're all talking about has a lot to do with my problem.
Sorry to go on so long...I'm open to anything you have to offer.
