Exercise Balls

Hi gang,

I've been rebuilding for some time now. I think the books are all great but I can't help wondering why Dean seems to be against using exercise balls?

Am I missing something?

Hi Bob,

I'm not against exercise balls. I only caution against using them if you are just recovering from a back injury. I don't think it's wise for someone with a bad back to try exercising on an unstable surface.

It's better to err on the side of caution until your back is well on it's way to recovery.

There are some great exercises you can do on an exercise ball to strengthen your lower back. And believe me, I was tempted to include some of them in the advanced exercise section of the book. However, after a lot of consideration, I decided to leave them out because I knew that if I included them some overzealous individuals would be tempted to try them too soon.

Hi Bob,

Take it from me, exercise balls have their place but you do have to be careful on them. I've tweaked not only my back but also my hip and a shoulder on different occasions while using them.

Maybe I'm just a klutz, but from what I hear I've got a lot of company.
