Hi cygnet, I've enjoyed your forum posts... especially the NY Times articles. Sorry to hear that you're going to need surgery after all. In some situations it is unavoidable and you just have to listen to your doctor. Like Dean says, if the nerve problems start to rapidly digress, then surgery is pr...

Hi again russack, I feel the same way Randolph does. I've seen that site before and was not impressed. It is nothing but marketing hype from beginning to end. I could find no real information of any value in page after page. Everything was just "muscle imbalance." Anyone with half a brain knows that...

Hi sj, If your doctor told you not to do something, it would be irresponsible for any of us in the group to advise you differently. He has more information about your condition than we do, so we just have to assume he has a reason for those instructions. For my situation, all of the exercises were a...

Hi jbouton, I notice that no one answered your question, probably because it is clearly answered in the book. But since I hate to see anyone's question go ignored I'll jump in and remind you of what you may have overlooked. Stop all sports or other strenous activity - and this would include lifting ...

Hi SeafordMdf,

Very moving story and some excellent advice. Thanks for sharing it. I hope you can find a way to turn your situation around and get back what you've lost (at least financially). The time we never get back, unfortunately.

Good luck,
Steven

Hi David,

Sounds like something you should ask your doctor about. Neck problems can cause headaches, but I'm not sure about feeling pressure in the head. That is just strange enough that I would want to get a medical opinion on if I were you.

Let us know what you find out,
Steven

Hi Randolph, You might try an elliptical trainer or a Nordic track cross-country ski machine. The elliptical trainer is like running but without the joint jarring that goes along with jogging on a hard surface. The ski machine is just like cross-country skiing. Both may still aggravate your back, so...

Hi Terri,

The exercises everyone is talking about are from Dean's book, Rebuild Your Neck. It's listed on the "Books" page (see the link at the top of this page). You can get it for just a donation and believe me, it's well worth it. Very well written and easy to follow.

Hi Sandy,

I've never tried aquatic therapy but I read somewhere that it can be very beneficial. I would say stick with it if it seems to be helping.

As far as the surgery is concerned, I would avoid that if at all possible. It is not the panacea that it appears.

Good luck,

Hi David Doesn't sound like a pinched nerve to me. Check with your family doctor to be sure, but it sounds like a simple strained ligament. They have tests they can do to determine exactly what the problem is... and can refer you to the proper specialist if need be. As far as the chiropractor is con...

Hi Federico, Welcome to the group. Always glad to see a new member and thanks for sharing your story. To answer your question, I think you're making it out to be harder than it is. Just follow Dean's advice in the book and you'll be fine. Start with the basic exercises for the first month and slowly...
