anulus fibrosus-does it grow back

I have a follow up question on herniation absorption. Understood that as inflammation dies the herniations resorb and decrease in size, but what about 'anulus fibrosus' the outer rings that protect the nucleus pulposus does that grow back as well?

Thanks,
Rupert,
PA

On the positive note you have a moderate herniation. If your anistegiologist friend beleives you do not require surgery then most likely you would not need surgery. My Wife has an Uncle who is a Psychiatrist and has stenosis of the spine. He has ignored the advise and has opted not to go for surgery...

Re: UIpdate....

Ken and Randolph, i have a big herniation i could see it in my mri. But at that time i was not able to straighten my right leg at all so i am not sure how big it is now. With time it will go down in size. For me it is close to 3 months now but i have seen considerable improvement. I am counting on e...

Randolph, yes the burning happens after sitting too long or doing some physical activity like lifting things. I have it under both the feet. I am counting on conservative care and herniation reabsorption. Is there any serious medical research going on for back issues? Thanks for the encouragement Ra...

I too have braod based herniation

Ken, and Randolph I too have a broad based herniation at L5-S1. Yes it is frustrating but we will get accustoed to this too. yes I second that this forum is very objective and patient-friendly.There is no hidden commerial agenda behind it. And after doing a lot of research, the bottom line is only s...

What does this mean?

I have been recovering from a l5-s1 broad based herniation and mildly displace s1 nerve, rather slowly but steadily. It has been 2 months and a week since I had excruciating pain. Took NSAIDS for 3 days and then followed it up with PT exercises. Last week added the Inversion table also. It seems the...

Re: Now what????

Ken, sorry to hear that, but I guess setbacks are part of the rebuilding process. I had one 2 weeks ago when I pushed myself a bit too much at the gym for a couple of days. Now the nerves have cooled down a bit. Hopefully brother you would get better and able to resume the rebuilding. Best Wishes, R...

Re: Where is everybody?????

Hello BackBuilders, yes I am getting better too but there are setbacks on the way as well. For a couple of days I stood up and did my job(Computer desk job.) but after two weeks it became impossible to stand as my neck became very sore from looking down on the keyboard. When I was standing I had ach...

Re: Chair....

Ken, seems like a sound idea in terms of core strengthening. Is it practical? can one graduate from sitting 15 minutes a day to working a 12 hour day on the ball overtime? I see the same issue with the kneeling chair. It requires strong lower back muscles. In addition it puts strain on knees as well...

Kneeling Chairs? Are those right?

Hello BackWarriors, A friend of mine at work gave me a kneeling chair to sit on that e had. Then I searched online and ordered one in a hurry from a commercial website. But after sitting on the kneeling chair for a day I find it is hard to sit for long periods of time on it. And I also noticed I fel...

I know how you feel

Tlc. ur PT is right abt exercises and Traction. About 2 months ago i faced the same thing, being an avid sports lover I tried to work out/exercise. I stopped once my wife made me to as I believe it made it worse. Then later on MRI found broad based herniation. I would say during the acute period lis...

"Time and mind" is the key

Randolph, yes Time is a great healer is true here as well. Minds, we would have to educate ourselves by listening to our bodies to avoid microtraumatizing and doing all physical activities the right way will be the key. That will in fact determine if we did enough to reverse the back deterioration. ...

Thanks for sharing your experience

Randolph, thanks for taking time to clear up my confusion. I can sit without much pain and have like you sat for long periods of time all along first studying for 10-12 years and then working in computer industry for another 10 years. Sometimes sitting 5 hours without going to the loo even. That is ...

Herniation reabsorption

Fellow BackWarriors, what steps can be taken to accelerate or help with Herniation reabsorption. So far I have learnt: 1.Avoid sitting/driving. 2.Do PT but avoid the exercises that seem to aggravae the pain. 3.Do traction. 4.Eat healthy diet. is there a silver bullet in herniation reabsoprtion. Than...

Thanks Dean

Hi Rupert, I can't address the specific program you were on, but in general, I can't see any reason why you couldn't continue it once you get past the back problems. (By the way, I edited your post slightly. It's generally not a good idea to address questions directly to me ... or anyone for that m...
