Hello again, Beet I was also "caught ... totally off guard" by sciatica (2 years ago, at age 52), after having had nothing much worse than a cold or two every other year, and doing all the supposed "right" things to stay healthy (many of which, however, were all wrong). I will never be the same, eve...

Hi Barbara Some chiros and physical therapists claim to have helped folks with minor scoliosis. Evidence, sadly, is anecdotal, thus controversial, and disputed by more mainstream/evidence-based doctors. How bad is your scoliosis? Have docs given you a degree number as to its severity, and how much i...

Hi Liz Broken bone takes at least 6 weeks to heal, doesn't it? My daughter (then age 4) had a cast to immobilize her lower arm for 6 weeks, following a compression fracture of that arm's wrist. After 6 weeks, Xrays revealed the bone had healed sufficiently to be used again. While I admire your initi...

Hi Beet You can find out more about spinal cysts (also called synovial cysts) at spine-health.com (clic on Dean's "Resources" above), or google "spinal cysts". Apparently there are several different treatment options for these cysts, depending on the pain you are experiencing. Looks like good news, ...

Hello Billy Sounds like you were fortunate enough to consult a good doc and get plenty of competent diagnostic testing; what did the doc call your collection of symptoms? Sounds like sciatica (to my under-educated brain, after reading your summary of your symptoms...) which will indeed improve with ...

Yes, Regina, please do keep us posted on your progress, including your experience with the CorEvolution machine. During the first, painful months of sciatica, there seems to be a place for receiving assistance from others and from devices/machines. Hopefully, you'll rebuild your back to the point wh...

Thanks for the good news, Henry! What kind of post-op PT instructions did the surgeon leave with you? Getting any regular, supervised PT? I'd be interested to know what kind of post-op care you receive, thanks. Thanks for your good news, too, Greg. I get the impression you're recovering much faster ...

Hi Regina I can understand some of your pain ... having been injured by a chiro a couple years ago; I was in horrible sciatic pain and couldn't walk for 2 months after 3 chiro adjustments .... maybe not the nightmare you're in right now ... but a nightmare for me nonetheless. I do not fondly remembe...

Baseball/Reconciliation Movies

Just saw "Field of Dreams" with Kevin Costner. Great b-ball movie and great for those of us who grew up with dysfunctional relationships with our dads (did anyone besides Tiger Woods have a functional relationship?). I really love a story about reconciliation ... whether or not it's actually possibl...

Greg's calf stretch works for me, too :D Thanks, Greg Another good calf stretch is the classic runner's calf stretch, in RYB ppg 81-2, described in his discussion on the psoas stretch It appears part of the rebuilding challenge is strengthening muscles, and increasing their flexibility, so they are ...

Hi Jeff The limited info you've given in your posts didn't indicate if you've seen a GP (in addition to the DC, who may be trained to look only for "subluxations"). I'd want to find out what that groin pain is ... and it would probably be wise to speak with a GP to insure that pain is not something ...

Hi Guest1103 The symptoms you briefly describe sound like classic sciatica. And considering that you've had an MRI done, I assume you're talking with some competent doctors (GP and specialists). All my sciatica symptoms have gone, including the numbness, leg cramps, and muscle weakness (like you are...

Hi Jeff Glad to read you've got your young son's support as you rebuild your back. My 3 young'uns really helped motivate me in my efforts: the onset of sciatica felt like the end of the world to me ... but was just an interesting challenge to play with, for them. For a while I used crutches and a wh...

The studies DrBlood cites are epidemiological studies; that is, they show a statistical association between two things: somebody gets an intuitive hunch that there might be some relationship between two things, then does a statistical study ... but the statistical study does NOT NECESSARILY reveal a...
