Cold feet and disc problems

Hello everyone. I made several posts a couple of years ago after I had a L4/5 herniation and subsequently a microdiscectomy, which went well. Pain virtually all went for 6 months after surgery but I had the odd numbness in the foot and a bit of tingling from time to time, nothing very serious. Cut b...

4 week update post microdiscectomy

Just to let you all know that 4 weeks post surgery I am very pleased with the way it has gone. Almost all pain now gone apart from a minor tingling and numbness on front of shin where the pain had been terrible before the microdiscectomy. Now almost got my life back and know how to pick things up wi...

Just over 2 weeks since surgery

Hello again. I had the microdiscectomy on 2nd August and all has gone very well. I was 90% better immediately after the surgery but still had some smarting, stinging pain in my shin where I had it before only it was much worse then. This nerve pain is slowly getting better and I have been unaware of...

Well, I have just had surgery!

Dear fellow sufferers. As promised I will now let you know how the microdiscectomy for L4/5 prolapse went (which I had yesterday). Incidentally, I decided not to have epidural injections on the advice of the surgeon because he thought that surgery in his experience offered a better chance of the ner...

Surgery

Thanks for your posting Ken. I had thought about epidural but I have put my trust in the surgeon who is confident of a good response. At the end of the day you have to trust someone.... Epidural buys you a bit of time to allow it to heal but I have had such pain on and off for 3 mouths that I couldn...

Further comments on surgery plus night pains

I'm here again at 2 am UK time woken up by sciatic burning pains despite having had strong painkillers. Thanks for replies to my post about surgery. I also was told by surgeon that I have slight weakness in the affected leg and foot which could lead to an irreversible foot drop if I don't go along w...

I have decided to have surgery...

Dear fellow sufferers. I feel as though I have let you all down, particularly after some of my previous positive postings, but I saw the surgeon today and am going to have a microdiscectomy. This is the 4th night in a row I have been woken up by the monster and turned to this forum for company and s...

Sciatica-relapse, help!!

Dear all. After my recent positive postings I am now in the depths of despair because following a week of pushing myself too hard I have had a flare up of acute sciatica that has set me back to where I was a month ago. Basically I spent several days sitting (with some discomfort) and travelling by c...

Hi Henry Yes, I understand your concern about ever being able to sit down comfortably again. I make my living driving a truck ... so not being able to sit down for several months during the initial months of my sciatica was quite a challenge. But I can assure you, yes, you'll probably be able to si...

More thoughts on the mental aspects of back injury

Hello again. Sorry I haven't worked out how to reply to a post so am posting a new one on the same theme. Thanks Greg for replying to my last post. It's good to know there is someone out there. I think the symptoms depend on what part of your back is affected but I sympathize because if I had to choo...

Progress report L4/L5 prolapse -the mental side is worse?

Hello again fellow sciatic pain sufferers. I didn't get any replies to my query about when I will be able to sit comfortably again but I found enough out by scrolling through the messages which confirms how useful this forum is if only for reading other peoples experiences. It is now 6 weeks since I...

L4/L5 prolapse-will I ever be able to sit comfortably?

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum but very glad I found it. I have a L4/L5 prolapse confirmed by MRI which first happened 2 months ago and I seemed to be almost over it when it happened again only much worse. 10/10 pain, pain like hot flames down right leg, muscle spasms, unable to sit or sleep et...
