SI JOINT PAIN NOT HEALING

Postby Meg » Wed Oct 17, 2007 8:48 am

Hi, I have read the many comments on SI Joint pain. Last June, I had a new incident. For the past 8 years, all of my "bouts" ranging from 2 months to 1 year, have been diagnosed as Degenerative Disk Disease, L4-L5 and L5-S1. Likewise this bout was too. That's until my PT said that my symptoms were more like SI joint pain, particularly when I wasn't responding to a couple of months of conservative PT.

I finally ended up with a PT who specializes in pelvic/spine. He noticed that my left pelvis was high and sacrum was tilted. There was actually swelling over L4-L5.

In the past, I have fought through these episodes with exercise, no meds and persistance. This time, I just don't respond. I have done numerous TA exercises. In my back, the multifidus on the left hand side has atrophied as have my left side rotators. I keep doing the exercises, even though they hurt. Last week I got an SI joint injection and I didn't get much help.

I'm wearing the SI belt, which I also have never done before. Does anyone have any suggestions? Words of encouragement. I'm kind of at rock bottom. And the nerve pain just keeps on coming.

thanks Meg in Miami

Hi Meg,

Welcome to the group. Sounds like you've read the discussion elsewhere on these pages on SI joint strain. I haven't paid too much attention to it since I haven't had to deal with that particular problem myself, but people seem to be improving.

I haven't tried Bill P's exercise yet, but it sounds like a good abdominal / core strength one. Is it anything like what your PT has you doing?

Hi, yes, I have tried Bill's exercises. I'm hoping he'll pick up on this topic as I find them easy muscularly but difficult with my pain level and I'd like his feedback. Thanks for getting back to me. Meg
