totally overwhelmed

Where do I begin? 58 year old former athlete. Told as a kid that I had "swayback". Ran for many years. Had a back lower back for the past 20 years. Back would tighten up....see the chiro....he would slowly stretch my lower back on a "bending table". He would go down my back from L3 to S1. He would also do the tens pads on my lower back...and after a day or so, I would feel much better.
Now, I developed numbness and zapping in my toes. Diagnosed as Norton's Neuroma. Took out two nerves from the feet. One neuro thought it was peripheral neuropathy. So, I take seizure meds...they don't work. The feet still feel worse than the podiatrist said they should feel. "Just a slight numbness". The only time my feet feel okay...and my back doesn't hurt...is when I'm flat on my back. I don't have any disk herniation. I have a 58 year old back. So, L4, L5, S1 issues. Facet joint problems...some arthritis. But nothing real significant. Most pain is in the lower left side of my back. I've had two epidural injections....only the anesthetic gave me temporary relief. I am overwhelmed! :(

Hi Jakatak,

It's easy to get overwhelmed if you focus on all your symptoms and the various diagnoses the doctors give you. Most of us here can relate to what you're going through.

I like what Dean says in his Rebuild Your Back book, he say, "Forget the diagnosis trap." What he means by that is: You don't need to know exactly what's wrong in order to fix the problem. All you need to know is how to fix the problem.

I think of it this way: We don't need to understand how our digestive tract works in order to eat. All we have to do is eat. Nature handles the rest.

You don't need to understand all the how and why your back is causing your symptoms. All you need to know is how to rebuild your back.

It's getting late. I hope this makes sense.

Keep us posted,
Steven
