Kneeling Chairs? Are those right?
Kneeling Chairs? Are those right?
Hello BackWarriors,
A friend of mine at work gave me a kneeling chair to sit on that e had. Then I searched online and ordered one in a hurry from a commercial website. But after sitting on the kneeling chair for a day I find it is hard to sit for long periods of time on it. And I also noticed I felt pain in lower back with it.
The kneeling chair makers boast that it keeps the body in neutral spine postion. I am going to try to sit on it another couple of times later on to evaluate it.
Please share if you have nay experience with the kneeling chairs.
Maybe I am too tall for the one my friend gave me.
Cheers!

Chair....
Hey Rupert
I too am looking into better sitting alternatives. I sit at a desk most of the day working on a computer. I am able to get up and move around whenever, however, sitting at a computer is not the best on the back. I was reading that exercise balls are good for sitting since they make you less passive when sitting. You are using your core muscles when using an exercise ball, and you definitely sit with a better posture.
The problem is... you have to build up to using it. You will find that if you sit on it too long that your lower back muscles will start to ache. Try sitting on it for about 15 minutes a day for the first few days, extending the time when you feel that your back muscles are handling the different posture. I am sitting on one now typing this. It is comfortable, and I am slowly getting use to it.

Re: Chair....
Ken,
seems like a sound idea in terms of core strengthening. Is it practical? can one graduate from sitting 15 minutes a day to working a 12 hour day on the ball overtime?
I see the same issue with the kneeling chair. It requires strong lower back muscles. In addition it puts strain on knees as well.
Cheers!

Hi Guys
The Exercise Balls / Swiss Balls are probably a pretty good Idea as you can also use them for several exercises that are back related .
The kneeling chairs I think are a bit of a FAD from the early 1980's .
I tried one out 20+ years ago for a few minutes ( I did NOT have a Back problem then ) and it was very uncomfortable .
But as I always say , If it works for you , Keep on doing it
Cheers ,
Mark

Kneeling Chairs
Guys,
final word on kneeling chairs from my side. Not worht it. It is more of an exercise equipment than a chair and in addition is bad on knees.
I would sit on these at all.
Thanks,
Rupinder

Kneeler Chairs
Hello fellows and lassies, I purchased a kneeler chair with coccyx cut out about 3 years ago (very expensive) when I couldn't sit on anything and it has been wonderful, I am sitting on it this now, you hold yourself upright on it, don't slouch, encouraging good posture is as important as Dean's exercises, I also recomend the Alexander Technique, like Dean's exercises and advice it looks initially too simple but it works. Promise.

Don't forget acupuncture. That one has lasted over 5000 years!
