New member lots of pain

Hello found this site and hope it helps. I'm a truck driver with severe sciatica. I've had it for about 7 months but wasn't that bad untill the last few months. I can no longer sit without pain. The first few months the only time I noticed it was when I got up from sitting and the first couple of steps burned a little then it would go away. I went to chiropractor for 3 weeks 3 days a week and it only seemed to make ot worse. So now I'm going to Vanderbilt next friday to see what they say. I ordered Deans book looking forward to getting it and hopefully get this headed in the right direction. It's just about become unbareable to work. Hope to avoid surgery at all costs.. Welcome to the forum.

Be sure to read randolph's posts. He's a truck drive too and has been there and back with this sciatica monster.

Thanks Ron I had a epidural last wed. The first 4 to 5 days I still felt no better however yesterday and today I barely have any pain at all in my leg or foot. However I still have a mild pain in my butt when I sit, nothing like before though. I'm suppose to have another epidutal next wed. so my question is should I still get the epidural or put it off to see If I continue to get better without it? Also I'm doing ryb and pt 3 days a week should I start some of the harder exercises now or is it still to early. Thanks Rodney

Hi Rodney

Look for my previous posts. I had 2 epidurals last year, 3 weeks apart. The first one was amazing, however, the 2nd one put me over the top. That allowed me to agressively pursue my PT and I am now completely out of pain and back doing everything I used to do prior to my sciatica.

I now am playing golf 3 to 4 times a week, exercising.... RYB, strength, and cardio, and am walking with my wife and dog 2 to 3 miles every day. I was skeptical about the epidurals, but I now know that they were the best treatment option for me. I hope that you too have great success with them. Remember, it is important to constantly do your exercises every day after the epidurals. You will have amazing results if you do. I do my core exercises every day.

Thanks Ken, That sounds promising. The pain in my leg is just about gone however the pain in my hip is still strong. They moved me up from stretching to light weighlifting doing leg crunches today. Seems to have increased pain in hip more so than last week I guess It's 2 steps forward and 1 step back for a while. Rodney

Hi Rodney

Glad to read you are getting good preliminary results with RYB and whatever Vanderbilt is recommending you do. (Would be interesting to read what they are having you do for sciatica)

It's a real challenge out on the road to make time for doing the exercises and stretches ... especially if you have a dispatcher like mine who thinks you're a machine who should be able to drive 24 hrs/day. But I've found opportunity enough to do all the stretching/exercising I need to do each day, even if I have to run 600 miles in one day. For instance, I carry an exercise mat with me, that I can exercise on while being loaded/unloaded, during tire checks/pre or post-trip inspections, or carry into the shower room with me to use before showering. So far, no one's said I couldn't; some folks even comment, "yeah, I should do that too".
