Sciatica - nerve root compression

Sciatica involves impaired movement and/or sensation in the leg, caused by damage to the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is commonly injured by gunshot wounds ,fractures of the pelvis, or other trauma to the buttocks or thigh.
Prolonged sitting or lying with pressure on the buttocks may also injure it.

Symptoms may include: sensation changes in the back of the calf or the sole of the foot, weakness of the knee or foot, difficulty walking, severe pain. In severe cases, individuals may experience an inability to move the foot or bend the knee.

This was found on an Australian Government Disabilities web site !

No mention is made of Sciatic pain will most likely involve Back Pain also.

I'm reasonably certain that Gun Shot wounds are not a Common cause of Sciatica . :o

Using the same Fuzzy Logic I have been able to conclude the following
Headaches are caused by Baseball Bats
Cut fingers are caused by placing them in a Electric Pencil Sharpener
Drowning is caused by Concrete Boots
Blindness is caused by looking at the laser inside a CD player
Deafness is caused by living near an airport
Broken Arms are caused by cars without power steering

And also apparently Cattle Rustling in the Vatican is still a crime

Well maybe not :( , I've just Googled the key words from the Government sites information and found the following places with exactly the same data .

The University of Pennsylvania Health System
The Palm Beach Post
FAQFarm
HealthCentral.com

Just to name a few .

Looks like no one does their own research these days ?

I'd love to know who wrote the article in the first place !

Easy to see how misinformation is rapidly spread these days via the Internet.

Ain't that the truth :( Having taught a college research composition course for several years, I can attest to that! It's interesting sometimes to follow the lineage of a "factoid" through several sources -- if you can -- since the citations are so often incomplete or incorrect.

And you'd be surprised -- or maybe you wouldn't :) -- at how many people there are out there that think it's not worth looking for or at if the information isn't on the Internet. Sigh....
