Spinal stenosis and backward bends

Post by lbuchser » Mon Jun 14, 2010 8:11 am

Hi! I'm new to this forum...just bought the Rebuild Your Back book, and am about to begin the exercises. But I'm very worried about a number of them, such as the Cobra, which require backward bending. I have severe stenosis at L5-S1, and very pronounced lordosis. I am already very flexible in a forward bend. Physical therapists have told me not to bend backward, as it would exacerbate my left leg pain, weakness, and foot numbness. Has anyone had experience with the backward bending exercises combined with the stenosis and lordosis?

Hi. I know how hard back/neck pain is to deal with ... I deal with it myself! I have actually thought about surgical treatments (my brother is a Neurosurgeon specialized in spine!), but he is not a big fan of surgery and I am not either ... Let me know how this book and its exercises work out for you ... if you need a Neurosurgeon for a second opinion, feel free to contact me. Good luck.
