Whiplash and collar

Hi,

I'm 33 and a working Mom. I was in an auto accident about six months ago and I've been suffering with whiplash ever since. My doctor just prescribed medication for the pain and gave me a collar to wear.

A friend of mine told me that the collar was actually bad for my neck and was probably the reason it wasn't healing. What do you think?

Hi Alexis,

Your friend is right. Most doctors don't prescribe a collar for neck injuries anymore because the research has shown that they actually slow recovery time and weaken the neck rather than strengthen it which is what you really want. Movement is actually more beneficial.

Hope this helps,
Holden

Hi Alexis,

I agree with Holden, the collar is probably holding you back. I think the only time they're ever used anymore is if you need support at night when you're sleeping.

Hope you get to feeling better,
Ron
