bulging disc

I have been having neck pain for several years, but during the last two months things have gotten much worse. I have sharp shooting pain that travels through my shoulder and down my arm. My right arm and hand are numb very often. I have doctored with an MD specialist who now wants to shoot corizone into my spine. To be perfectly honest, this scares me quite a bit. She also recommended physical therapy, which I did and continue a home traction program.
I also have seen a chiropractor on a regular basis, which also doesn't seem to work. She recommended cranialsacral therapy, which I did once and nothing happended. I am going to give that one more chance and then I don't know what to do. I would love to know if anybody has had any luck fixing a bulged disc without meds or surgery.

Hi
I just stumbled onto this website a couple of days ago, so I have just started with the exercises. I have been dealing with this for 6 months. I tried a chiropractor and trigger point injections with little success. I recently have started biofeedback, which helps me deal with the pain-it doesn't get rid of it and yoga. At this point I am willing to try anything.
I am a nurse anesthetist. I frequently do epidural steriod injections for chronic back pain. I have been noticing that probably 90% of the patients I see have not been doing any back exercises. So maybe the exercises are the answer. I hope! Good luck and let me know how it goes-R

Hi guys,

I was diagnosed with a couple of bulging discs and the exercises really helped me. Don't know if they are the answer for everyone, but I'm pretty happy with them.

I would stay away from the chiropractor. They will just keep suggesting other "therapies" that don't work. Anything to keep you coming back.

Dear Beccy

Exercise will work!!!! i had a real stiff neck almost unbearable actually after seeing a chiro.! What you may find is happening is the chiro is freeing the joint but the muscles are 'splinting' spasam in otherwords. The joint is moving and the the neck doesnt know what to do so it splints for all it knows the neck is more serverly damaged. I know, it hapened to me!!!

Its good the chiro has got it moving as other wise the joint would have deteriated through lack of use! Deans exercises are very close the exercises by robin mkenzie for the neck from the book 'trrat your own neck' and i used them pre me finding deans book and they got me outa trouble reall quick. What Dean has added whic i agree with is exercises to build neck back up after pain has stopped.

Biuges mulges ignore that stuff..... we all have em you have a stiff neck!!! MRI often just scare us too much!!!

Best of luck ands take good care!

PS drink lots of water and consider taking glucosimine condroitin and MSM!
