In pain after doing exercises

I have had 3 surgeries in the past for herniated discs between l4 and l5. I still have discomfort and do the exercises regularly after the middle of my back started hurting earlier this year. I have been exercising and training with a trainer since June. I have been doing good and getting really flexible. Then this morning I do my usual stretches take a shower and when putting on my pants boom again a sharp pain in my back.

I can't bend forward without recieiving a sharp pain to my lower. I can't even do the stretching I was just this morning. It feels more then just a muscle tear.

I'm so scared because I have been working so hard to get back in shape and have been feeling so great exercising. It doesn't feel as bad as it did back in the day when I hurt myself I couldn't even stand straight then but the pain is really similar.

Is it common that people still have these types of acute set backs after doing the stretches exercises and doing really good. I just hope it goes away in the next day but we all know it could end being here for what seems like eternity.

Not sure what I am really looking for out of this post. I'm just really nervous because I don't want to be like this and have tried so hard to get my body back in shape.

hi. even if the herniations have been removed what I have learned is that disc pain can last for a long time due to the tears in the disc. you should talk to your dr. and trainer about that pain and be extremely careful. I have disc tears and they are extremely painful and flareup at times. The neurosurgeon told me it can take 2-3 years to resolve. the tears don't heal, they fill in with scar tissue which is not as strong, so it is easier to reinjure the disc. google discogenic back pain. I really hope the pain has calmed down for you. maybe this is not new info for you but in a nutshell it can take a really long time for the pain from disc problems to resolve itself.

Jackie,

Are you able to walk significant distances? Like, say a mile or more?

Hi Tbone. no, I can't walk long distances since this injury. 20 minute walk is my limit. standing for long periods of time is an issue too. I also have SI joint issues on the right side which is slowly improving with light pool exercise. Even though I can't walk long distances I have improved quite a bit since I herniated my disc 6 months ago and expect to be able to walk and stand more as I continue to improve. how are you doing?

Hey Jackie, its been a couple years since my last surgery and I was doing really good and then this happened. Its like I was doing everything that would prevent something like this and what do you know with my luck it happens again.

The good side is that I seem to be recovering a lot faster then ever. I remember in the past not being able to walk or stand up straight for months but in a week I am far beyond that. I just hope this heals faster so I can get back to my routine.

I don't know if it is a disk or not but it sure is killing me.

so glad you are getting back on your feet. my disc is taking months and it is frustrating as H.... hopefully you'll be painfree quickly.
