Hig Shrug question

Hello,

I have just started this program. I have a small question regarding the hip shrug exercise. Exactly where are you supposed to feel the stretch for this exercise? I believe I am doing it correctly, however, I want to make sure because I have a ruptured L5 S1 disc and I understand that this exercise is critical to healing this condition.

Any thoughts?

I feel the stretch more or less evenly all up and down my spine from my hips to my shoulders. My back has been fine for several years now, so I can't remember if it felt differently when I first started. I would think someone with an injury or other issue to deal with might feel it more in that area when you first start out. I wouldn't be concerned. It's pretty hard to do that one wrong.

The hip shrug seems to make my right foot fall asleep. I think I will eliminate that exercise for now and see if my sciatica goes away.

Hey TBone!

I just want to give you another option...

...take the shoulders out of thought by raising them over your head, just like you're going to dive into a pool...or like the begining of the 'Side Bend' stretch.

Now gently lift one heel off of the ground at a time without bending your knee.

It feels to me that these are muscles that I'd never noticed using before...like when I was lifting weights.

Hope this helps.

Flying Pig,

I just tried your suggestion and it seems to work. Thanks. :D
