How does RYB compare to "Treat Your Own Back" by R

Post by Jennifer1742 » Wed Nov 22, 2006 2:41 pm

Hi Everybody,

My mother has had increasing lower back pain for 9 years. After recent surgery for a total hip replacement (not related to the back pain) the back pain has gotten much worse. She has had all the imaging done and GP's and specialists cannot find anything in the pictures to explain the pain. COrtisone injections used to provide some relief in L4 and L5 before the hip surgery. Now she is being referred to a pain clinic.

One physio recommended the book "Treat Your Own Back" by Robyn McKenzie, a highly respected New Zealand physio, who currently works out of Queenland, Australia. I was wondering if anybody could comment whether the RYB program was the same or different ? contradictory? etc.

Hi Jennifer,

I have read both books and can heartily recommend both of them.

Having said that, I feel that the RYB book is better because it incorporates everything that McKensie (and Williams) teach in their physical therapy programs as well as Dean's own take on things.

I think someone else said it before me, but I tell people that Dean's book is "McKensie on steroids."

It is the best overall program I have found so far,
