Hip Shrug ?

I don't know if I'm doing the RYB Hip Shrugs correctly. I feel like the only way I can elevate one hip is to lean slighlty to one side. Book says this is a great exercise for L4-L5 which for me are both herniated so i'd like to get it right. Can anyone describe it correctly or point me to a video?
Does this exercise seem to be working for you? Mahalo for any info.
