Hi phenom34

Good news is that you have a good chance of healing completely ... if you allow healing to occur ... which leads to the bad news of only doing what you can without pain, for a while ... which is often not as much as we want to do, especially in regards to sexual function. Periodic masturbation allows you to see how well you're functioning without the embarrassment of failing to perform with partners who are less than sympathetic with your temporary limitations. But, rest assured, we are most likely talking TEMPORARY here.

I also earned an attack of sciatica from improper weightlifting. 3 and 1/2 years after initial injury, I'm back to normal sexual functioning ... but it took a year. Patience; keep up the physical therapy ... though it's my bet you'll recover faster than I did, as I'm in my 50's.

You might want to reconsider spending the thousands on the spinal decompression therapy. Provides relief for some; not so for many. There are much cheaper ways to get relief from the pain/numbness of sciatica while you heal. Check out Dean's pain relief manual.

The nerve damage associated with sciatica takes months, even a year to heal ... but it does heal ... if you don't re-injure the nerve from trying to do too much too soon. To minimize the time required for healing and returning to normal functioning: do as much as you can ... but not too much. If you legitimately don't have the time (some folks HAVE to return to normal functioning within weeks of injury), microdiscectomy is a good bet (not 100% ... but better than Vegas), but as you say, rarely done on young folks.

Please keep us posted on your progress.
