I'm new to RYB and am quite committed to giving your program a try after some 30 years of back pain. I've downloaded and read your back pain book, and am very excited about performing the exercise regiment.

However, I'm having a problem executing the Cobra routine due to an old shoulder injury (torn labrum). I can perform step 1 without a problem, but, after about 30-45 seconds in step two, my right shoulder gets aggravated by the exercise. It then becomes difficult to peroform step 3 because of the shoulder irritation caused from Step 2. (Step 2 is actually more strenuous on the shoulder problem then Step 3.) Again, I'm quite fine with Step 1.

Anyway, I would GREATLY appreciate any suggestions you may have to work around this situation. Thank you!

Possibly try supporting yourself on pillows instead of on your elbows for part two. (Awkward, I know.)

Second... Although I don't like the idea since you'll be skipping a very important warm-up step, you might try going from step 1 directly to step 3.

Just go slow and do a few where you only push part way up and then back down.

Lastly, at the risk of sounding like an advertisement, The Pain Relief Manual was created specifically for people in your situation. I do the exercises in it before I do my back exercises.

Hi again,

I've read over the Pain Free Manuel, but am a bit confused on which warm up exercises would be best appropriate for me prior to doing the Basic Excericses from Rebuild Your Back

From what I can gather, I should do the arm and leg reaching as described on page 34 & 35, but, I/m not clear on what if any folding (Step 2) I should attempt. If so, which body part should I engaage?

Thanks again.
