Hi Curt, It's not unusual for two doctors to give two different opinions. The good news is that they did disagree. If both doctors were alarmed and insisted that you must have surgery immediately then, and only then, would I consider surgery. Dean has a good article here: Herniated Discs Don't Requi...

Hi Stan, I have a back swing that I used for a while but it's gathering dust right now. It did seem like it helped relieve the pain some but any benefit was only temporary. It didn't provide any long term results. Since I started rebuilding 2 years ago, I've had no need for it so it just sits in the...

Hi Bob,

Take it from me, exercise balls have their place but you do have to be careful on them. I've tweaked not only my back but also my hip and a shoulder on different occasions while using them.

Maybe I'm just a klutz, but from what I hear I've got a lot of company.

Re: Workamn's comp settlement

Hi, Also, I got my injury on my job and unfortunately, got fired a week later. The insurance company wants to settle the claim and I was wondering if I should settle? No. Not until you are completely recovered. The ortrhopedist said that the herniation and nerve compression did not require surgery ...

Hi John, Welcome to the group. You didn't mention how long ago you injured your back, but it sounds like it's been over a week. Dean has a good artilce on MRI's and back pain called, Abnormalities are Normal As far as the NSAIDS are concerned, I have not tried them personally so I can't comment. I d...

Hi John, welcome to the group. My recommendation is to dump the chiropractor as of yesterday. No progress in a year? How about no progress in 10 years! I too had a bad back and made the mistake of going to a chiropracter. He didn't do much except crack my back and cash my checks. You can do a lot be...

Hi Katie, Welcome to the group. Pinched nerves take a long time to heal. Even after the pain is gone the nerves can take months to finish healing. The goal is to relieve the pressure and/or inflamation on the nerve so that the healing can begin. Then to take steps to shore up the internal stuctures ...

CyberDean... who'da thunk it?

But seriously, back to Deb's question, I think we need to know more information before we can comment on her problem. Hopefully, she will give us some more details on what she's dealing with.

Hi Dorothy, The best place to start is your family doctor. If you don't have one you can try one of the new immediate care clinics that are popping up in most towns now days. They're staffed by groups of family pracice doctors so you'll get in quickly to see a real doctor. Whatever you do, don't go ...

Hi Big Dave, First off, I recommend that you start adding in the advanced exercises slowly. Preferrably one at a time. Work with an exercise for a week or two and you'll know what it does. Personally, I have a normal routine that I do everyday which includes the core exercises and 3 or 4 of the adva...
