Some Updates

Hello all, I've been fighting a lumbar injury for the last couple of years now, and I thought I would share what I've learned. I could also use some encouragement and/or experience to help me understand my issue(s). To sum it up, I have low level left side back pain with no leg weakness or numbness....

Well. in general I think I am doing better. The progress is so slow, however. I had another flare-up in late April and visited my doc. He suggested another MRI to see where I stand. The MRI did show that I still have a tear that has not yet healed, and he suspects this is what is bothering me. He wa...

Encouraging news and some feedback

Hello all, I had a visit with my physical therapist last night, and a good chat with him. I've been seeing him for about a year to help me recover from a mild to moderate L5 protrusion. Let me start off by suggesting that having the right PT person makes a big difference in the mental aspect of this...

Yes, My symptoms move around a lot. Sometimes I get tightness/discomfort near the spine where my L5 problem lives, with no leg symptoms. Sometimes I have no back pain, but mild leg symptoms. The leg symptoms move around a lot - they can be pain in the foot, or tickling in the shin, or a vague sornes...

Ups and Downs

Hello all, I've been lurking and posting here over the last year and thought I would give you an update and perhaps compare my experience with others. In short, I have an L5 protrusion that gives me modest/intermittent back pain. Seldom do I get symptoms down the leg, and I have no numbness or weakn...

Gents, Thanks for the suggestion about MR neurography. I'll ask my Dr about it when I see him again. I am still optimistic about my recovery because my symptoms are relatively modest/minor. Add to that the fact that the symptoms are predominantely confined to the low back, and it seems there can't b...

Too much exercise?

Hello all, I've been battling a minor/modest back injury since the beginning of the year. In a nutshell, my injury is a protruding L5 disc. I have intermittent low back pain, sometimes with faint shin/foot twinges. No weakness, no numbness. I am in the care of a physiatrist and have done physical th...

Epidural Effectivness

Hello all, I've been lurking here for about 10 months since my back flared up on me at the beginning of the year. Here is my short story - I have a protruding disc at L5, with some smaller protrusions at L3, L4. I am 51 years old and am in otherwise good health. The good news for me is that I am vir...

Some Progress

Hello all, I am a new member of the forum; you might have read my previous introductory post from last month. I thought I would share some news of progress and ask a question or two. I had a visit with my physiatrist last week. He was interested to hear how things had been going over the last 6 week...

New to the forum

Hello all, As I am new to the forums, let me introduce myself. I am a 50 year old male in good health. I've lifted weights all my life, and have been jogging for a couple of years. So I am reasonably fit. About 6 weeks ago, I injured my low back and received a diagnosis as follows: 1. A small tear i...
